Hi Matheus, congrats on your BitPay integration. Reference your comment that you are always happy to consider additional feedback for any other crypto gateway/solution that might be useful for your users, please could you look at a crypto payment gateway that supports a wide range of coins? CoinGate integrate with Woocommerce and other platforms, and support 70+ coins, Gemini are the exchange behind and integrate with The Giving Block, so although don't advertise as being a payment gateway, they clearly have the capability and also support 75+ coins, and there are probably others out there.
BitPay although a great start is quite restrictive and auto-convert all crypto donations into fiat (normal) currency, which means charities such as ourselves who want to hold their crypto donations for a while and sell at the most profitable time, are unable to do so. Coingate and Gemini, and others have that valuable capability.
Many thanks
Michelle

We are in the finishing stages of creating a BitPay Payment Gateway add-on. They provide a means of using many different cryptocurrency wallets via a single integration.

Jason Adams: just be alerted their support is awful. I guess you’re going to use their api, and in order to use their service company/charity has to be verified by them. I have applied for verification couple of months ago and didn’t receive any reply. I even sent many many emails to their support but no single response. I even tried contacting them via their social media but no luck. So just saying that they are not the best of options we could have.
I wish you considered Coinbase Commerce as they are wonderful.
Jason Adams
Armin Ghasem Azar: Interesting. Thank you for the heads up. If other users run into the issue we may be able to raise a case and reach out to BitPay with a bit more leverage.

Jason Adams: Great can't wait for this. Curious why you didn't use BTCPay Server?
Jason Adams
Brendon: Honestly, we asked around and heard back BitPay. Since then, we've suddenly started hearing a lot more suggestions. Hahah! We'll see how this goes and go from there — it's important to us that it works well and reliably.

Jason Adams: Ok cool sure. BTCPay Server is definitely the way. It's the top open source project that aligns with Give's own-your-own-data ethos. It's recommended by the Human Rights Foundation see hrf dot org. I'm sure they would give you some advice if you asked. Also check out articles by the CSO Alex Gladstein he regularly recommends BTCPay Server.
Jason Adams
Brendon: Thank you for the tip! We're also considering The Giving Block as another option.
Crypto is, admittedly, a challenging tech to get into — for customers, donors, and for us as integrators. Weighing the complexities introduced to all parties is taking careful evaluation.

Jason Adams: Yes 100%, crypto only took me like about 4 years before I really understood it properly lol. It would be great to have BTCPay Server as an option. I wouldn't use it personally if it was through a middleman like Giving Block or Bitpay. Giving Block auto converts to fiat I think anyway (?). The great promise of a decentralised network like BTC is to remove the middeman and put the community in control which I think is what Give is doing for donations so would be great to see that here as well. My 2 cents. All the best, looking for to the add-on.

Jason Adams: Yes, another vote from me for BTCPay. We have used it before.
BitPay will work for many people. However, there are 2 cons:
- It is not decentralized: Why is this a problem? Because the whole point of Bitcoin is for it to be decentralized. BitPay takes away what makes cryptocurrency special to begin with.
- Many non-profits are also interested in holding the cryptocurrency in their own wallets without being forced to exchange it for USD immediately, as BitPay does. BTCPay works much more naturally and natively with how Bitcoin was designed to work.
The good news is, if you guys finish with the BitPay integration, integrating BTCPay is just about as easy as changing a URL according to the documentation. The reason is, BTCPay has an API integrated with BitPay already.
Check it out:
"Bitpay Invoice API - BTCPay implements the same API as Bitpay for creating and managing invoices.
Migrating from BitPay to BTCPay normally is as easy as changing a URL."
Kyle Johnson
One benefit that we have found with BitPay is that the non-profit can choose how to settle payments, either into a fiat currency of their choice or to a crypto wallet of their choice.
From a product perspective, BitPay gives us the flexibility to meet 80% of the non-profits' needs as we explore the next best steps.
Also, we are doing some infrastructure work that will greatly reduce the overhead of creating new payment gateways, so adding a new crypto donation flow will be much easier (and well documented for those with a specific need).

I'd like to report back that over the last month, we've gotten an almost equal Bitcoin to Fiat donate rate.

This would be awesome!

I think the most likely way GiveWP could do crypto-donations is with Bitpay:

It is disappointing that GIVE has not instituted Crypto Currencies as an option. We will be implementing it and placing TheGivingBlock payment option on our donation page. The Crypto Currency group is becoming a sizable group of donors and I do not want to ignore this potential source of donations.
Patrick Hubbard
I would love the ability to accept crypto donations and micro donations (tips) on my website.
