More Context For Stripe Declined Messages
complete
Zack Jenkins
As an Admin, I'd like to see more context to a Declined Transaction by Stripe, so that I can better explain to my donors what happened, or even my donors will be able to understand why a donation was declined.
Right now, GiveWP displays:
- Error creating payment intent with Stripe. Please try again.
- Unhandled payment intent status.
These are not user-friendly errors because it's necessary that the admin check the logs to see what happened. If we can make it user-friendly, small errors like wrong CVV will be avoidable.

Hi Folks,
We are happy to announce that additional context for Stripe Declined messages is now available with the release of GiveWP 2.27.1. Make sure you have a good backup of your site that you can confidently restore from, and go ahead and update at your earliest convenience.
Happy Fundraising!

Ravinder Kumar: How come this has been changed back from 'under review' to 'Open'?
It's so off-putting for donors when they get a generic, undescriptive error after making a simple typo in their card details. Especially as the card details are removed at that point, so they can't double check. It's confusing for me, let alone non-tech savvy people.

Our team will definitely have a look at this. Issues like this that are not preventing donations or have a simple workaround are generally prioritized at the end of an 8 week development cycle, and then tested and released. That means it can be up to 10 weeks for issues like this to be resolved.
Thanks!

Thanks Ben & thanks Stephanie L for surfacing this to Ben! I'll echo what Zack said, but make it a bit stronger: user-unfriendly user-facing error messages make us all look bad -- GiveWP, me for recommending GiveWP to the organizations who rely on my recommendations, and the organizations. And, much worse, donors get frustrated.
If I were prioritizing development, I'd rank something like user-unfriendly user-facing error msgs below can't-donate, sure. But, I'd rank them higher than minor feature upgrades. If a donor doesn't donate b/c they get an inscrutable error msg for something simple like a bad CVV and get frustrated, that is absolutely a GiveWP emergency from where I sit -- in the IT hot seat.
Thank you!
