New donor should be able to define his/her password during the donation

We're always open to enhancements and changes like this, but the reason this is unlikely to be changed is two-fold.
- GiveWP used to work this way, and we changed it to silently creating the password, and saw increased donations. This feature request is essentially to undo that change.
- Our number one goal is to increase donations to your website. Any "friction" on the site (requiring potential donors to do anything that slows down their movement toward clicking the "Donate Now" button) is a problem to be eliminated. Requiring a donor to come up with a password at the time of donation will decrease the number of donations.
Instead, we recommend ensuring that the new user email is sent immediately upon donation, so that AFTER you've gotten the money, you can ensure that Donors know how to give again.
Finally, the new Donor Dashboard coming in 2.10 of GiveWP will enable donors to manage passwords/accounts themselves, immediately after donating.
We'll leave this feedback under review, and if enough folks agree and vote and comment, we could be persuaded to make a change.

hi Ben Meredith, i agree, there should be as little friction as possible. However, it is important to provide good registration/login/password reset options for users, especially when they login with a 'session', so it is clear they can make a password if they want. Eg see my suggestion here (https://feedback.givewp.com/feature-requests/p/change-password-link-in-donor-dashboard-for-registered-users) to make a line with "Generate a password for easier future login" on the Edit Profile tab on the Donor Dashboard. You note in your comment below that 2.10 would provide options like this, but i do not see them. Have they been postponed?
Also: The default login screen that non-logged in users get when they press "Donor Dashboard", which offers users 2 options (1. Login for a session by getting a link on email, 2. logging in with user name and password) should also have a 3rd option: "Register an account for easier future login with a password".

Ben Meredith: oh this great! I totally agree that the new user email (with the password) should be sent immediately after the donation and the new donor dashboard enabling donors to manage passwords and account after donating is cool. It’s much better this way. I’m going to undo this vote and if there’s a request already up on the user email and new dashboard, let me know where it is so I can vote on that. Thanks.

Ben Meredith: Hi, at the moment, the new user email is sent immediately but not the generated password (I guess there is a generated password)...only a password reset link. How to send the password along the new user email?
Ben Meredith
Webkatana: It's a security best practice to never send passwords in emails. Sending a reset link so that users can securely create a new password is much more secure. This is a WordPress feature, not specific to GiveWP. It's not possible to send the password in an email at all.

I encountered a lot of issues from donors where they do not know their password was auto created when they donated and the next time they want to donate on something again, they can't use the same email and do not know their password and don't know where to reset the password and ended up not donating. donors should be able to set their own password for the website the first time they use it.
