This was resolved in Give 3.16.0 & Recurring 2.10.0 (updates on both are needed for it to work).
Before taking any steps for updating, I highly recommend taking a good backup of the site you can confidently restore from. Having a backup of your site is essential to a solid workflow, and will allow you to restore to a previous version of the site if you run into any issues. We released a fix for this that passed QA checks, but we have been receiving new reports of this issue that our support team is able to reproduce.

In the function cancel() (give-subscription.php), the status is already "Cancelled". So we return from the start of the function.
